Subjectivity, A Story by Absolutely Epic

Humanity has transcended itself.

Many now question if what science has wrought is more monster than miracle. The Awakening see the artificially born humans of this transcendence as no more than monstrous deformities to be put down, while their creators see them as the greatest hope for humankind.

Over seventy years ago, the Barren struck without discrimination, leaving millions dead and thousands more infertile in only five years. By science or divine intervention, the disastrous plague was cured, and in its wake the ability to artificially create humans discovered. These “Subjects”, are now looked upon with fear and mistrust.

Roe Speremus is classified as a near defective Subject. Robbed of his very humanity, the young man’s cold gaze hides an enormous brilliance and a heart long stilled by the cruelty of his creators. He is sent to a local university and is thrust into the centre of a conflict that seeks to answer the question of his humanity. He will not let himself or his fellow subjects be so easily dismissed.

Stephan Tharros sees the world as a dying animal crying out for his help. In all corners of the sad world he has walked for scarcely more than twenty years, he sees the rampant hatred against Subjects, the injustice of bureaucracy overlooking those in need, and the anger of mankind played out time and time again, even in his own family. A chance encounter with a mysterious individual threatens to shake the foundations of his world.

Sonya Volkov is the daughter of a land humbled by economic ruin, political scandal and social stagnation. Incredibly protective of her beloved younger brother, she would willingly damn herself for all eternity to save him. Where there is hope and brilliance in Stephan and Roe, in Sonya there is drive and might: the power to change the world. Walking the lonely road of a soldier with a secret conscience, she is given the opportunity to take up the sword of liberty.

Unbeknownst to them all, powerful forces vow to see the world remade anew in starkly divergent images of loveless order or supreme nothingness. The lives of millions of innocent human beings hang in the balance. Shall the world be made a better place by the actions of a brave few? Or will the fear of many allow atrocities of incomprehensible magnitude to transpire?
